The Private Pilot License (PPL) allows you to fly for personal or recreational
purposes but not for hire or compensation.

General Requirements

Flight Requirements

Minimum of 40 flight hours to include the following:
    • 3 hours of cross country flight training
    • 3 hours of flight training by reference to instruments
    • 3 hours of night training to include:
      • One cross-country flight of at least 100 nautical miles
      • 10 takeoffs and landings
    • 5 hours cross country to include:
      • 1 cross country at least 150 nautical miles total distance, with landings at three points and with one segment at least 50 nautical miles between two locations.
      • 3 hours of night training to include:
    • 3 takeoffs and landings at an airport with an operating control tower.

Real World National Average:

Please understand that these numbers represent the minimum requirements required by the FAA. The national average is 65-70 hours to license, and we average about 25 hours to solo. However, the average flight times and total costs vary according to the frequency of lessons per week.
